yeah it has the same 169 address. how do i delete it? uninstall for the tcp/ip protocol was greyed out under properties. yeah the firewall is off. and the nic seems to be running fine in device manager.

Great link, but I don't think it applies here. The TCP/IP stack shouldn't be "trashed" if it's a fresh install. IMO..the problem resides @ the router.
My problem was that the PC wouldn't pick up the correct IP address from DHCP so it could connect to the router, to the internet, and any other PC's on my router.Originally posted by: onearmedscissor

doesn't that just tell you how to file share but not internet share?
i did the reset thing and it didn't help.

Oh, I know. I wasn't meaning that in a negative way, just saying. 🙂 Even though it doesn't seem to apply here, it's still a great link, and I copied and pasted it for future reference. 🙂

What are your TCP/IP settings? This probably won't help, but you might try to disable the Firewire net adapter.
Just FYI, after you reset the router all of them will be blank and then it will pick up on the connected PC's later. I know this from my Linksys router, as I to have had to reset it a couple of times.Originally posted by: onearmedscissor
i just looked at the clients table and it is blank...
"DHCP Active IP Table
DHCP Server IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Client Hostname IP Address MAC Address
None None None"

It's got to be something whacked in the router settings I think. Otherwise, it would get an IP from the router. For some reason, the router refuses to give out an IP to that NIC. IS there a chance you have another NIC you could try...I doubt it's the Intel NIC, but it may be confusing the router somehow since it recognizes that NIC from the system before you did a fresh install.
Also, have you tried uninstalling the NIC from the Device Manager, rebooting, and letting it find it again?
