Internet not working through router.

We just got a high speed internet connection at my house. It is not Cable or DSL, it is actually true wireless.

There is a dish on the roof, with an ethernet cable running directly to the house.
There is no cable/broadband modem.
Simply an open ethernet cable that can plug into a computer or a router.

When i plug the cable directly into any computer in the house, there is no problem, i just set the connection to automatically detect settings, and the internet works fine.

The problem comes when i try to plug the cable into a router, to give all computers access via ethernet and wireless.

The router will not detect any internet connection.

Should i have to go into the network setup and type in some DNS or STatic IP address, or should i be able to have the router detect them automatically? What else could the problem be.

Which type of router are you using, and is it doing DHCP?

Try cloning a MAC address into the router. That should solve your problem.

I'm not familiar with wireless ISPs, but you must have a system to logon or authenticate... either with some sort of software they provide, or it's set to recognize your network card (through it's MAC address). You need to figure out which it is... if it's login authentication, then you'll need to set that up in your router similar to DSL (i'm assuming).... if it's set to recognize your network card, you'll need to find your network card's MAC address, and clone it in your router.

It depends. Some ISPs have that set to automatic, and some have it set to specific IPs. Look in your computer's TCP/IP and see what it's set to, and copy it in your router.

2 configurations you can choose.
1. Use an wireless Access point, plug the ethernet cable from your sat dish to WAN port of the access point- Use DHCP. Connect the other computers to LAN ports
2. Use one of your computers as Gateway to the Internet connection, set a LAN and assign static IP(example 192.168.1.50, sub 255.255.255.0) . Set the other computers gateway to the IP address of your gateway computer i.e, 192.168.1.50. Good Luck

AP's don't have Wan ports, routers do...

his router isn't working, so even if you used the correct terminolgy, you wouldn't be helping....


clone the mac, and powercycle the wireless bridge (device on the roof) by pulling the POE injector. Sometimes those bind to mac addresses

Mine has WAN port. !! Not here to argue but share what I made things work.
