can someone fix this problem for me.

my internet does not work. i can use AIM, but only when set to Port 88. Other than that, my internet and AIM do not work. I am currently posting from Linux (on the same laptop) and it works fine.

I am connected by an ethernet cable.

Any ideas what happened to my Windows and how to fix it? It is XP. I've done System Restore already but it didn't do anything.

You may want to list what kind of internet connection you are using. Can you pull a valid ip address running ipconfig? Try rerunning windows internet connection setup.

yea i can get an IP.

i can get it from school, from my apt, and from my home.

this all started after i stupidly unplugged my laptop whiel it was shutting down (i was in a rush and thought it had already finished shutting down.

connections were the school connection (whatever it is), cable, and dsl, respectively.

i think its more of a windows thing. i may resort to formatting, which is what i usually do when i cant solve a problem

oh, well i just ended up formatting.

but im not sure ur idea wouldve worked since both internet access from my wireless card and my pcmcia ethernet card didnt work...

thanks though guys.
