Internet kids safe surfing?

I would like to let my kid surf the net but the content of some sites concerns me. Does anyone know of a program I could use that will filter out inappropriate content?:disgust:

a great, free, no nonsense filter i have been using for about two years is We-Blocker. it allows multiple user accounts, word-by-word filtering, and a custom list (although the list is updated a few times each day by the compilation of all users on the net, you can specify ones that to you should be blocked or allowed).

I'm pretty sure that there's a program called Net nanny.

Dependent on you're ISP and the software provided by them, you can get site blocking etc. I know that AOL offer this.

Good Luck

Greetings,

Please visit http://www.surfnsafety.com to answer your question. Although we provide a "custom filtered" ISP dial up service, there are numerous listins of other products both FREE and retail versins that are available an information on them is located here. Unlike the other "filtered" ISP services with a "one filter fits all" structure, we have a huge topical filter structure where YOU decide which filters you prefer to use. Each customer can set their filtering to the specific level for their own personal preference or need. Best of all, it's only $19.95!! You can also got to http://www.childsafe.com where there is a list of web sites which are 100% ChildSafe under the iWatchDog Program and is updated weekly.

I hope this is of help to you.

Drop us an email if you have any questions..

TheWart...I have tried We-Blocker and like it...only problem is that my kids computer is running XP Pro and they all have their own log in. When I put the We-Blocker on it seems to only work for one of the kids log in...the other 2 keep getting an error that pops up about unable to connect or something like that..it became a nuisance so I uninstalled it...any ideas what to do for multiple log ins under XP???

how old is your kid?

honestly, nowadays... there's just no way to block out all the shady websites.
rather than trying to block off billions of them websites...
i think it'll be much easier and efficient to talk to your kid about those websites.

how to deal with them.

it's like sex.

rather than hiding it from your kid...
explain it to your kid... and help him understand in the right way.

Once again, I will make the point in full agreement. As parents, we have a responsibility to educate our kids about the trash they may encounter. We hold the key to whether or not our kids will be impacted by trashy content, or at least to a major extent. If we don't teach our kids right, we have no excuse if thet get into that trash or get hurt.

wow... greywolf... are you selling something here?

🙂 you sound like an advertisement.

am i missing something here?

Greetings,

No, I am not trying to sell anything. I simply am very dedicated to the protection of children on the Internet and at home. I am the person who made the word "ChildSafe" a household word and am also the Executive Director of the iWatchDog Police Association, IWPA. I apologize if I seem like I am making a pitch, I simply take my work very seriously as do all other staff members here. Thanks for expressing your thoughts..

stockjock. i dont know of that problem. this might be more of a pain, but can you just install it to "all users" as administrator, or manually install it as each user logs in?

The Wart - I will be speaking with the folks from We-blocker tomorrow and see if I cannot find a solution to the problem with the software.

I remember when their was some discussion of a new top level domain, .kid. It would be for a pornless, child appropriate part of the net. I think that is a great idea.
