Internet keeps going out

My cable modem keeps resetting, ~every five minutes. I called Charter and they said there was a 'local outage' so is anybody else having any problems, or am I the lucky one?

Edit: It's been over 12 hours since I called, and it's still just as bad. I get random disconnects from the cable modem itself... the whole modem is reseting every 5-45 minutes, usually towards the short end. Sometimes I just lose web browsing, sometimes everything disconnects.

Does this sound at all like anything that anyone has experienced?

WTF it's gone out five times in the past 20 minutes.

I've been having HTTP problems (25% packet loss continuous) for about two weeks now. Charter renewed my DHCP and gave me a new ip, and now this starts happening 🙁

Prism are you in souther WI? (I'm in Madison, so it could just be a Madison thing?)

Ah. I talked to a couple other Madison people, and none of them are having any problems 🙁

It seems better now, so hopefully it'll stay up.

It's still happening :/

Nobody else here that I've talked to is having any problem. I think the cable modem might be dying, or something is resetting the connection on the other side of the cable modem every fifteen minutes. It keeps losing send and receive in seemingly random intervals but reconnects right away. There have been no hardware changes at all.

Maybe this should go into the networking section?

well if it is a local problem you might want to post your city. did you try connecting without your router? Tizlyer is probably right about the bad modem

I'm in Madison, and not using a router. It seems better now, but I still lose http connectivity every couple minutes (which has been happening for two weeks now).

This is where you call your provider and get them to fix it. Network equipment rarely "does bad". It's all solid state stuff.

Plus they're the ones that can look at all kinds of statistics/logs to see why your modem is disconnecting.

I've called them three times, first time they reset everything and gave me a new ip, second time they said there was a local outage, third time I got a recording saying there was a local outage, yet nobody I know is having any problems at all.

It's slowly getting better. Could any sort of network outage or problem cause my modem to reset constantly?
