internet issues

If i have my ethernet wire going from my modem to my computer, the green light will blink and my internet will work, but if i have it firactly from my modem to my computer, an orange light will blink, and i wont have a connection... Does anyone know what could be wrong? thanks

oh im sorry, i ment that the router to the computer does work, and from the modem to computer doesnt.

If the computer has an internal modem then I can see the router only connection working. In which case you would not need the external modem.

Since he said that in one instance the cable runs from the modem to the computer, it would seem obvious that it's an external modem. I'm interested in this thread, because I'm considering adding a router to my dialup connection also.

From what I saw on a diagram at the USR website, the ethernet wire should go only to the router, and the modem should then connect to a port on the router.

Maybe I'm just confused but, he said that running the connection from the router DOES work and running the line from the modem DOESN't work implies that the computer has an internal modem. How else would he be able to connect?

If Clevee is asking how to connect both a router and external modem then, plug the ethernet cable from the computer NIC to the router and the router to the modem and the modem to the wall. Put filters on any telephone/fax lines using the same phone number as the DSL line if the OP is using DSL.

Most importantly, Clevee needs to use complete and clear English sentences. :)

First of all why are you disconnecting the router if everything is working?

The reason it works from modem>router>pc is because your cable provider has synched up with a mac address. Unplug the power to the cable modem, disconnect the router, and run the ethernet from the modem to the pc, now plug the power back in to the modem and wait a couple of minutes and it should work. If not release and renew your IP address.

192.168.0.1 is your router IP (it's your gateway) therefore it's also showing as your DNS servers since the router manages the Comcast IP/Gateway/DNS addresses and sends the data to your pc @ 192.168.0.182

Since the Marvell is working leave the current cable connected to it and unplug the other end of the ethernet cord from the router and connect it to the cable modem. Unplug the power to the cable modem for 30 seconds, now plug the power back in to the modem and wait a couple of minutes and it should work. If not release and renew your IP address using cmd.exe (in your 3rd pic) and typing IPCONFIG /RENEW

Is your interet down? Comcrap should have walked you thru all of this already unless you got a complete tard for a tech.

For some reason last night when i went to renew i would freeze, i flashed my bios today and now it works... hmm... anyway i did a power cycle again and renewed again and now it works, i now found that the reason my dns servers wont show is because the router has something to do with it, i used to have no problem with this when i had my linksys router... but now i have the DGL 4100 D-link router and it seems to be doing something with the DNS servers and not letting me have them. When i got the modem to go directly to my pc, the dns servers did show up... so i guess i will have to call D-link and figure out how i can get the DNS servers to show.

I'm glad you got it working. However the answer to your DNS question is answered in the first paragraph of my previous post. You don't need to call D-Link or anyone else because there isn't a problem and the DNS IP's don't need to show in the locations that you're looking at. If you want to see them log into your router and go to the status page. You can input the DNS servers into your Marvell TCP/IP properties if you think it will make a difference, but I assure you that it will not unless there is a true DNS problem w/ a need to use different servers (rare).

what i wanted to do was run a ventrilo server off of my computer but i had to set up a static IP in the Internet protocol, i've done this many times when i could find the dns servers, so are you saying that I can replace the dns servers with the default gateway and it should work?

No.

1) Set a static IP in your Marvell TCP/IP properties:

IP - 192.168.0.2
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.0.1
DNS1 - 192.168.0.1
DNS2 - leave blank

2) Forward the proper ventrilo port (3784) in your router to 192.168.0.2
