Internet Font appears as boxes

My friend's Pentium 3 WIndows 98se computer is having trouble on Internet explorer. His font at random places appears as boxes. He has a built in 16 mb vid card and newest IE and windows 98 updates. He runs a Linksys Wireless B router that has been running fine up until now. Before, internet was fast and his font was fine. Now the internet is extremely slow and his font appears as boxes. Does anyone know what the problem is? He tried using Juno, also but got the same problem.

Thanks in advance.

Scan for viruses, adware, spyware, trojans, and generally malware. Clean it all up and check the defualt font set.

Turn off pop-up blockers.
Also reinstall your standard fonts.
The FONT mite be messed.

hope that helps.

Consider loading "Resource Meter", C:\WINDOWS\RSRCMTR.EXE , in your startup. It will display a little graph in your taskbar and show how many system/GDI resources that you are using, and display a warning if they get below 10%. If that happens, normally, some of your programs' fonts get messed up. Using this utility will allow you to determine whether your font problem is related to low system resources, or some other problem (font file, or font registry corruption, etc).
