i used to have the same problems. would be in OFF-TOPIC and opening windows to threads that interest me. I don't know how to resolve this problem.

I ended up getting Firebird for tab browsing. No more fooling with maximizing windows and such.

Never had this problem...

Then again I have never opened 32 IE windows at one time.

Hmmm..... 45 IE windows open. Other than having to make my taskbar about 7 rows high, IE is still acting fine :D Though not all 45 of the IE windows are from the same IE process.

Yeah multiple IE processes is the key. I open another IE process after about 20 windows.

:Q 32 windows!?!? And here I thought I was odd by opening 2 or 3 and bookmarking what I wanted to look at later.

its funny the differences in the way people browse the net....

me, i look at a whole page at once, and do OPEN IN NEW WINDOW for everything else i wanna click on, then go back and look at them.

when im on a friends machine they are like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

whatever.

Just double-click on your IE shortcut :D It will launch a new process.

That's why I use tabs in Mozilla, just middle-click on all the links I want to follow and they load in new tabs. By the time I'm done on the first page usually all the tabs are done loading.

I think I had 63 or 64 earlier today (for the heck of it), but that seemed to be the limit. No more would open (.5GB RAM in my box).

I opened over a hundred xterms the other day when I was bored.

edit: just for fun again:

% ps auxww |grep [a]term | wc -l
172

On my relatively paltry 256MB ram. :)

I don't see what this would do. All those terms will be using the almost the completely same memory because of COW, the only OS that might actually affect would be DOS.

I've hit ~60 on my friend's T30 w/512MB RAM and WinXP. I'll try it on my main computer tomorrow :)

The most I've really used simultaneously is about... 20-ish?
