i thought it was only me, but my brother's computer seemd to work well. I'm using IE 6.02 something something, the latest version, and it seems that I can't seem to link to some pages. Example is when I go to fatwallet.com and I click on the coupons there to get some amount offa some purchase. It's a cookie link that suppose to automatically take that discount off when you shop instead of having to enter a code. Well, my brother's computer will do it, but on mine, when I click the link to do it, I get the "page cannot be diplayed" error page. Same thing happens when I try to go to games.yahoo.com. I installed the latest update from MS for IE and no work. I uninstalled it and no work. I have my IE to accept all cookies, yet it still doesn't work. Anybody know what's wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Oh yeah, I'm using WinXP.

possibility :

search for your 'hosts' file in the windows directory....does it have a lot of entries? some spam blocking programs use that to avoid spammer websites, unfortunately some like linksynergy are ok and used by ebates, fatwa11et, etc for referrals.

see this example:

http://www.spamblocked.com/hosts.txt

so make sure those address you want to connect to aren't in your hosts file

If that latest update you installed happened to be the Cumulative Security Patch for Internet Explorer that was released on 02/03/2003 then you might want to look at this hotfix for the patch. It seems that the patch broke some of the Web site logon / authentication features of the browser.

Tried WW's suggestion but when I searched for the websites in the host file, I couldn't find f@tw@ll3t. no go there either.

could it be that I installed the java runtime program? I installed it so that i could test out my DSL speed.

Just to clarify this post, because I get the impression you missed it...check your hosts file for linksynergy, not that money holder in your back pocket. Your reply was that you couldn't find the other site and not linksynergy, which makes me think you may have mi-read his post. And FWIW, I don't think the Java Runtime app killed this for you.

I'm glad it fixed it...

for the yahoo...is 'rd.yahoo.com' in there? or anything yahoo.com should be removed

or do you mean that the games won't load up once you get to games.yahoo.com? that could be a java thing (if the games are java based).

I deleted everything yahoo. As for teh games, it didn't load up the page when i clicked on the specific game i wanted to play. usually there's a title page first before you load up the java applet, but in this case the title screen didn't even load up. It's all fixed now though. Thanks! :)
