internet explorer stops working when close window

i have a dell laptop with vista and recently when i open up multiple internet windows and when i close one a message pops up that internet has stopped working and it closes out every window and then reopens one to my homepage? can someone help me stop this from happening? it is very frustrating. this is my wifes PC and she does all kinds of junk on it. games/myspace etc.... i have AVG and adaware loaded and up to date.

please help?
