Internet Explorer Status Bar

I have a small problem... after i install xp, the status bar on the bottom of IE always shows.. but after a while, it disappears, and it's off by default.. i have to goto view, and check status bar everytime i open a new IE window if i want the status bar...

how do i keep the status bar open?
 
Props to my old(Nov 2002) copy of PC Magazine...

Open one instance of IE. Click View->Status Bar. Now press Ctrl while closing IE (use the X, not the menu) Next, open My Computer and select View->Status Bar. Finally, go to Tools->Folder Options, and select the View tab. Click Apply to all folders, confirm the dialog and close.
