internet explorer settings keep getting messed

My IE settings seem to keep getting messed. I use a site that has a search form and I enter a word or phrase and hit search and then if it's wrong, I hit back and change what I entered. I've been doing this for months. Now, all of a sudden, when I hit back, the form is empty and if I hit foreward again, I get the security warning that the page has expired. This never happened before. If I change the settings in IE for forms, it works for about 2 tries, then switches back. The settings in IE don't change though. If I uncheck them, then recheck them, hit ok, restart explorer, it works fine for 1 or 2 tries, then messed again. What could be causing this type of behavior? How can I stop it, apart from dumping IE altogether, which is looking more and more plausable every day. Oh, I'm running XP with all the updates and a firewall and norton, and the firewall controlls cookies too, plus popups and java. And turning the firewall off has no effect either.

I might be WAY off here, but this is just a try.

Have you touched your settings on when to "Check for Newer Versions of the Page?"

Let me reiterate once again, I don't know if this is anything, but have you played around with those settings lately?
