Need location of my existing "Mail' and "Addresses" files, in Internet Explorer 6, Outlook Express. Need info for BOTH WIN-98SE, and WIN-XP Pro, please, if you know either OR both?

I'm moving from my WIN-98SE PC to my WIN-XP Pro PC, and also reformatting and re-installing WIN-98SE on the old PC. Want to take my mail and Address Book with me, but I've been unable to find them. I located "Favorites" (bookmarks) for both systems and have that under control.

In the past, when I used Netscape Navigator, I new enough to save to CD-RW my "Mail, Bookmark.htm, and Pab.na2" files prior to reformat, and then reinsert them, so as to not lose my Mail, Bookmarks, and Addresses.

I don't think system specifics are needed, but if they are, I will certainly provide!

Thanks!

I've answered this before, so look for my posts in these:

In XP and 2k, the files will be stored in the "Documents and Settings" folder for the username, in the application data, et cetera folders.

The easiest way to find out exactly where OE is wanting to store them is to open OE, go to Tools, Options, look at the Maintenance tab, and click the "Store Folder" button. Then you'll know what folder to copy from the first installation, and then find where to copy the files back to once you've reinstalled.

Oh yeah, and the address book is stored as a .WAB file, usually in your \windows directory. Back that up, then you can import it into the new installation.

That link was also posted in the above thread. You'd think Microsoft would just make it simple to do, rather than having to write such a long-ass description and requiring people to go search around their knowledge base hoping to stumble upon that.

I can't believe they admit that the ONLY way to back up your mail rules is to use Registry Editor. And that will ONLY work if you're installing the exact same version of OE.

Lord Evermore: Thanks! I had searched ("mail"), but didn't find those two threads.
