I use IE pretty heavily, often having 15 or more windows open at once. Don't usually have problems but the last several days I've been getting messages that IE "encountered problems" and I'm asked if I want to send an error report to MS. I generally click OK, and most (generally not all) of my IE windows disappear. This happens a few times a day. What can I do to stop this ___ from happening?

I'm running Windows 2000 SP4 and IE 6.0.2800.1106. Thanks for any help.

I've found this tends to be invalid activex issues in the registry, norton system works windoctor seems to fix my machine right up when I have the same problem....and 15 open windows isn't that bad, I've had several hundered open at one time before taking some open book tests over the internet for my Dell Certified Systems Expert (DCSE) testing.

lobadobadingdong answer should fix your problem, but as Cluelis mentioned tabs would be benificial to you. Having 15 windows open drains a lot of memory. If you like IE there is a program called MYIE that will integrate tabs into your IE browser. If you have no preference to IE, I personally recommend using Mozilla.

Uh, where do I get tabs? I know, XP sort of gloms them all together from the tray icon and I'm sure that's a bunch better. I wind up with a million little e's in my tray and I don't know what they all are without those squirrely tool tips.

Hmm. I used Mozilla for a spell but discarded it, don't remember why. Maybe I'll give it another go. Thanks for the MYIE recommendation. Will look into that. I have Norton Systemworks 2003, but didn't install Windoctor. I think I will now, though. Thanks!

You might also try Firebird, a derivative of Mozilla that is just the browser without the mail and calendar programs.

Cool. There's no way I'm going to use my browser for mail or calendar stuff. I use Agent for mail and Outlook for calendar. Thanks.

Uh, can I keep all my IE Favorites if I start using Firebird instead?
