Internet Explorer Hangs

Everything else on my system is fine but when I run up IE (5.5) it occassionally hangs. This does not happen on running up but only after I tab to or click inside a text box. It hangs for about 1 to 2 minutes then continues merrily. Tabbing and clicking does not cause a re-occurrence in the same box/on the same page but does on another page. I have two LAN cards installed. One is active and connected to our network and the second is not connected to anything. Any ideas anyone?

have you tried other browsers? Netscape? Opera? If you try another, just check to see if it happens on those too. If nothing happens on another browser, then you know IE is messed up... if the other browsers hang as well, then you know its something windows is doing. I would suggest upgrading to IE6 anyway - getting the service packs, updagtes, etc.

Disable the NIC that is not in use. Go to device manager, clcik the NIC card that is not in use, go to Properties, put a check mark in the box "DISABLE THIS DEVICE IN ALL PROFILES" (or something like that)

Same thing happened to me (i was on dial-up but had a NIC installed) and would get a random hang.

Thanks. I have gone one step further and physically removed the extra NIC. I have even re-installed IE but the problem just will not go away.

Same thing happens on two of my computers. I have tried IE5.0 and IE6.0 same thing. I switched to Mozilla on the P166 and Netscape 7.0 on the Duron700, no hangups. My PIII-500 laptop runs 6.0 just fine w no hangups. That is the only one running XP though, the others are running 98SE. I have read this on this forum many times. I have tried several of the suggestions w/o success. My suggestion would be to change browsers.
