Internet Explorer EXE download problem

I'm having problems downloading EXEs in internet explorer, well not so much downloading them but they way IE acts with them. When I click an EXE link it doesn't bring up the 'save target' dialogue instead it just displays a little picture type thing, heres a screen shot. The file is still downloaded but saved in my Temporary Internet FIles, anyone have any ideas to fix this?

Thanks for any help

That is Microsoft's current way. You can buy the disk for free, a very good investment, but the shipping is about $11. Or you can go to the secret hidden site at microsoft which allows you to do the download for non-microsoft browsers. If you represent yourself as a Mozilla user, they send you to another server to download Explorer, and it will download and save then entire huge file. It takes hours, but it is worth it. Then you can burn it to a disk and use that to reinstall IE.

It would always help if you let us know which version of windows you are using as well as which version of IE

try running "sfc /scannow" from the command prompt.

I had a similar problem to this a couple years back when I was on win95 with IE4.0, I upgraded IE to fix it.

WOW thanks for all the help, my internet was down for a while, I'll try those solutions out. Thanks again

Ok I went here but the weird thing is there is no uninstall link for IE in my add/remove programs thing.
I performed the Windows File Checker thing ("sfc /SNANNOW") didnt help though. Oh I'm running Windows 2000 professionsal edition, IE Version: 6.0.2800.1106 I decided just to try and reinstall IE, so downloaded
this from here.... ok have to reboot, hope this works 😛

None of that fixed it, even uninstalled my pop-up blocker still same results. Any other ideas? Thanks for all the help

none of that worked, thanks 4 the support though. I read the MS page, its just about programing and I manualy did the winguide thing but didn't do anything, so i downloaded the trial and it still same results. hmm think im going to delete my plugins folder in Program Files/Internet Explorer or just delete the whole Internet Explorer folder and reinstall it 1 more time, maybe that will solve this problem, but if not anyother suggestions?

WOW you guys rock! 😀 It is fixed!! Thanks for all the help, Slikkster's solution worked. It must have been some spyware or something but ad-aware must have removed the file and left the registry key, because I couldn't find the file but deleted the registry key and that solved the problem. Oh I took a screen shot before i deleted the registry key if anyone cares to see what caused this problem. Once again thanks everyone for your help.
