Internet Explorer E-mail program

I am trying to help a user who uses Outlook Express as her mail client. The machine had Outlook 97 installed at one point, but it isn't any more. The issue she is having is that she will get an email that has a mailto: in it. When she clicks the link, it won't open up in OE. I checked the Internet Programs tab in Internet Explorer (since it's using IE to render the pages), and under E-mail, there's a blank choice and Microsoft Outlook. When Outlook is selected, and error shows up. When blank is selected, it opens up about 20 IE windows with the mailto: in the location bar, but it doesn't do anything.

Does anyone know how to fix this or where that drop down list in IE is populated from?

IE6, OE6, Win2k

I had found that article about reinstalling, but I'd have her just copy and paste before going through that much grief.

Install Thunderbird and the problem is solved in less than 5 min. 🙂 She'll get a spam filter and a more secure email client.

Yeah, I'd like to have her use Thunderbird, but teaching her how to use anything else would be a pain. I might give it a shot, though.
