A friend had me uninstall a lot of programs and remove files to free up space on his laptop (2GB boot partition was full). While I had it, I installed all "Critical" updates from Windows Update. Everything appears to be just fine. When I brought it back, my friend asked whether it would have fixed a problem that he was having with Yahoo Mail. He demonstrated by visiting www.yahoo.com and clicking "Mail" at the top. After signing in, the page does not load.

The computer has Windows 98 (not SE) and Internet Explorer 6 (I thought that IE6 would not install on systems before 98SE!!?).

Being an obsessive compulsive person, it really bothers me that we can't figure it out. Does anyone else have this problem?

I forgot to mention:
We reset the security settings for each zone to "Default" and it did nothing. Also reset cookie settings as well. I had cleared the cookie cache and temp files while working with the laptop to free storage space.

The system was remarkably free of spyware. I've learned to recognize even the most obscure spyware remnants because I have to endure it each day because I install cable Internet service.

I'd say that 4/5 computers are infested with spyware. The fifth computer is usually brand new and has not been connected to the Internet...or just recently erased due to spyware complications!

Anyway, I'll try reinstalling java, then IE, then Windows.

ugh

Uh, wait. Firefox to the rescue!
