Internet Explorer broke

I'm running Vista Business (64-bit) on an AMD X2 4000+, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD. Before I go any further, I use Firefox as my default browser. I use IE only for specific websites like CNN video and Netflix (the online viewer).

Out of the blue, my Internet explorer has stopped processing any Javascript. No Google Maps, no ajax on any website, no Netflix video. Here is what I've tried so far:

1. Started Internet Explorer (No add-ons) from the start menu instead of the regular IE. No dice.

2. Tried the 64-bit version of IE (separate app). Google Maps works, so do other websites with Ajax. WTF!!! Doesn't help me, because almost every browser plugin I need (Flash player, Netflix Movie Viewer) are 32-bit only.

3. Went to settings and disabled every security mechanism possible. Disabled the pop-up and phishing filter. Allowed scripting of every kind. Disabled protected mode. I felt dirty using no protection, but I had to try. Didn't work.

I'm much prefer not to format and re-install my operating system. Anyone have any ideas what is going on?

Thanks!

If you haven't tried a reboot, try that next, and reset IE's settings to default (Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset button).

Forgot to mention in the OP that I tried the reset. Settings for both versions (32-bit and 64-bit) went back to default. While the 64-bit browser continued to work fine, the default 32-bit IE did not. It won't even show me Microsoft's "run once" page.

I'll try a reboot and see if that works.
