Internet Explorer and Wininet.dll

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this problem. I just installed windows xp service pack 2 and now internet explorer randomly crashes with an "invalid page fault" in iexplore.exe in modname "wininet.dll" The error occurs on random pages and is quite frequent, every few minutes or so. Sometimes I get lucky and it doesn't show up for a while, but then I'll get 5 of these error messages in five conscecutive internet explorer startups. I've tried deleting the temporary files, cookies and history, but that doesn't do anything. All of the information I've found online seems to apply to windows 98 only. Thanks for any help you all can provide, this problem is driving me crazy.

Hi,
I have got the same problem. After installing SP2 and some other software iexplorer.exe crashes with wininet.dll and has to be closed. Other software who was also installed and tested a couple of times (always tried to repair, failed and installed once more)

Norton Internet Security 2004
Office SBE 2003
Sun Java 2 Platform SE 1.4.2
Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3

on

ASUS A7V600-X Bios 1005 with XP 2800+ Barton
MDT 512MB DDR Ram 400
Sapphire ATI RADEON 9600 SE
S-Ata Maxtor HDD, 160 GB

Also googled for hours, but found nothing that could help.

Perhaps there is help from "Smilin" or other professional ?

Thanks in advance...

Bah! Sorry guys I've since lost my notes on this whole thing.

Basically there is a hotfix that will address this issue if the circumstances are just right. Give MS a call. The IE/Perf guys should be able to find it pretty quick.

Thanks Smilin for his advise.
My problem was an overclocked system, not a driver flaw. Perhaps this may help you.
