I doesn't have problems with flash unless you mean it uses a lot of cpu-time. I went to www.flash.com and tried a tour. It was fast enough there, but it used a lot of cpu-time everytime I choose a new menu in the tour. Normal or not normal??.

AoD 😉

no
flash itself doesnt have a problem

but SCROLLING a webpage containing a flash
www.hardocp.com

try scrolling the top of the page

me and my friend is SLOW AS HELL scrolling that on 5.5
no problem with 5.0

i really dont know whatz causing that scrolling issue on my system

but all i know is i am not the only one with that

extreme2k: I don't know if that's it but I've disabled smooth scrooling since I was told that it took a lot of cpu-time. And it did. Even after disabling the smooth scrooling thingy I didn't see a change in the scrooling except for a less use of cpu-time 🙂.

AoD 😉

Just installed it. Seems 50% faster for me now on page loading. I'm on cable modem.

I'd say get it...

There's two install about 8mb and I think 16mb or so. Which one did you guys download.

My verison is: 5.50.4522.1800 I went with the small download.

Damn, IE 6.0 has some funky toolbar on the left side of the screen. That sh!t has got to go🙂

i actually like m$ smooth scrolling

although it takes more cpu power
its worth it

but my IE5.5 problem still arent fixed :<

Yeah flash pages don't scroll very smooth but who cares? 5.5sp1 is incredibly faster on things like these forums compared to 5.0 for me.

MSDN doesn't get Whistler. It will once it goes Beta and it already has so, next MSDN shipment will get it. Thats means I will 🙂. Too bad I already have it!

How do you get the damn thing to download the files for later installation, but only the ones you choose?

I go to "customised installation" and pick my components, but everytime I go to the "advanced" tab it always says "downloading components: full" when I choose "download only". I am not downloading 29 MB on a 56K modem!

The 5.01 installer saved the customised installation just fine.

WOW, the forums and pretty much else seems faster with IE 5.5. sp1

Here is my verison number ... 5.50.4522.1800

I wonder what else they will tweak with 6.0??

Oh, and no problems here with the Hard OCP Site!!

Yeah BFG, that is a pain. I do the same thing. Advanced/Download only. If you do it that way, "full" is the only way to download.

I also had acrolling issues, but with IE5.5 in Win ME ( yes i know, forgive me, im back with 98SE/2K dual boot. Soon to be heading solely to Whistler Beta 1, i hope.)
Anyway, knowing that ME's version of IE5.5 wasnt the latest, i downloaded and installed the latest version at the time from the M$ site, but it was crap at scrolling too, particularly on Anandtechs main page. Never bothered with it after.

NSF4, about IE6 - spill !!! 🙂
