So, in the beginning of June, I pretty much was introduced to internet domain investing by a friend. I thought, hey, maybe I could hand register a few good ones - but every one I searched, taken! Though the really long, three word domains, which are a pain in the ass to type in - yeah those are still available. So I thought my friend was on crack...
Then I found out about LLLL.com, like something stupid like QXUT is actually worth like $20. So I read they had been bought out almost a year ago. The market spiked, the minimum price hit $50, and pretty much up to now since then there has been a market correction. From what I observed, it seemed like July was pretty stagnant, and that prices had bottomed. This is just based off general observation that prices now seem a bit higher - deals seem to be a more difficult to come around.
So, now I've invested $627 in these bought out domains. This is actually more than I planned - I'll probably have to drop it to $500 by the time college begins. Stupid educational expenses...
Current LLLs are at minimum, a few grand. Six years ago the were in low hundreds. So, anyone who bought those at that time, have had a 1000%+ return!
So, there's about 456,000 of these LLLLs, which is a lot. But assuming on average, the average investor owns 10 of them, that leaves roughly 46,000 people owning them, out of millions/billions of internet users. Of course, to most users, these aren't really worth anything. I wouldn't expect that same return, just more a gradual increase.
I have to say though, it is very addicting. I'm almost constantly tempted to throw one down on credit, but I feel I have finally reached equilibrium. A year from now I probably would not have invested $600, but $6000 (only because I'd have a entry level job at the time). I'm actually going to flipping whatever I can around, and see if I can slowly build $627 to higher amounts.
The one reason I also became involved, is because I have the potential to develop a good website. I know PHP/MySQL and CSS and PS sufficiently to build from scratch a pretty good looking website. Now I just need my gem of a domain...
