Internet connection with lan and dialup

It seems I can connect to the internet with cable modem and 56k modem at the same time. I can see different IP addresses for both in winipcfg. What determines which connection is used when both are connected?

It's been a while, but I think it's the last one you connect through. Leave your network connection and then dial-up, how is the responsiveness?

Ya I connected to dialup to send an email from that address, and things slowed up rather violently. Then when I terminated the dialup connection things went back to their swifty usual self.
