Hi, i have a strange problem: usually every day (since few weeks ago) in the evenings my internet connections is almost down...if i ping google.com or anything else i get values from 50 to 3500 with many dopped packets

The rest of the day the internet connection is great and ping is stable

I installed 3 diffrent windows versions from windows xp to windows 7 - clean, with no software on them, but still got the same problem

So i guess its not the windows...the isp company says everything seems fine on their end, i have good 42db signal (thru cable modem) ...i used many spyware cleaning softwares and antiviruses - i was running latest nod32 updated and still the same problem

When i install windows i completely format C drive ...only windows i keep there, on D i keep my music and games and everything else

I dont know what is it....is it the ISP or some kind of virus?

How long does this problem last?

My Dad was having a problem with his connection. About the same time everyday his internet connection would go completely south. To the point it wouldn't work at all. The condition didn't last long, maybe 30 minutes.

He was looking at the connection where it comes into the house, on the outside. He noticed the Sun hitting the junction box at the same time the connection went bad. So he rigged up a little shade with a large piece of cardboard which solved the problem.

Apparently, there was a problem with the wiring. The heat of the Sun was just enough to cause some expansion which resulted in a short. Once he reported this to the ISP, they were able to come out and fix the problem.

It doesn't really sound like you have the same problem but I thought I would mention it just in case.

Are you behind a router or directly connected to the cable modem? Could be a hardware problem with the router.
Since you mention that it happens only in the evenings, it could also be an issue of heavy traffic in your neighborhood at certain times of day.

it might be heavy traffic i could understand that if at leats the sites pages would load but i cant use the internet at all, thats something no one can understand

Grr... not at my home set with my speed test links...

Charter has always told me that our connection was good when the node was completely overloaded. Solid network activity light on the modem? Another symptom will be pixelization on HD channels at the same time, or you had HD acting up and it is now clear (as the reprioritize traffic and steal cable modem bandwidth).

Marked. So later I might be able to post some of the speed test links. These are a good test to show you are not getting advertised bandwidth. I have seen 6MB Charter running at 500kb and lower and they refuse to believe it (the next door neighbor and I have been fighting them for 8 years - DSL is slower in our neighborhood.)

It sorta does sound like your ISP has oversold your area. You could also have your connection throttled by your ISP. I had both of those happen to me a while back and it was unbearable. When I called in they didn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned throttling or traffic shaping.

Anyways, you might have a look around at your specific ISPs forum at dslreports. They also have speed tests as well as other tools. http://www.dslreports.com/http://www.dslreports.com/

Keep calling your ISP until they send someone out.

Maybe if you hint you'll discontinue your subscription with them they'll remember the whole "customer service" concept.

Not sure if this was discussed in previous posts...but I had similar experiences with my home internet after 5 + years of solid business class service...went on and one for about a month...and I couldn't pin point it.

Finally one Saturday the internet went down for good...pissed I called the service provider and low and behold it turned out the modem was FUBAR'd...

In speaking with the manager of the local office...they explained that it could have been the modem the whole time.

Easy thing might be to change out the modem
