internet connection speeds...

im on Bellsouth's Fastaccess DSL w/ a Netgear RT314 router and an alcatel speed touch home modem.... Fastaccess claims to be 1.5mbps / 256mbps,
however, when i run speed tests from dsl reports, i range between 1050mbps/200mbps and 1250mbps/220mbps...

is there something i can do to tweak this or is it bellsouth's server's fault?? and if there's nothing i can do, do you think this is a reasonable difference to complain to Bellsouth and have them do something about it??

Hey if they are giving you those kinds of speeds, you should be very grateful. I mean really really grateful.

Uhh...I think you mean kbps, not mbps. The speeds you're seeing are normal. You have to figure in ~20% overhead just for the traffic alone.

you're right.. kbps not mbps...

I dunno bout anyone else, but i don't use bellsouth internet but i have been getting some shotty @$$ speeds here lately , bellsouth are who runs the phone lines, etc.

<< I only get 750/175kbps from my Earthlink DSL in So Cal. I pay $50/mo. What do you pay? >>

45$/ month... i live in suburbs of Atlanta

I have Earthlink in Chicago, and now that they have cleaned up their act a bit and it doesn't drop out every 5 minutes... I have between 1000/150 to 1500/400 on good days. Advertised 1500/256

??
It is really expensive. I'm in Canada (Quebec) and cable access cost me 40$ per months (and yea... it's Canadian currency!!! 😉

I do as much as 300 kB/s (2400 kbps) in download, but only 15kB/s (120 kbps) in upload though...
