Is it possible to limit the bandwidth of the internet connection on my networked computer so my system doesn't lose so much?
Also, of the subject. Can I set up a system so that it's password protected just after a certain time. Reason is that my kids stay up all night on the computer.

lose so much what? an there are programs i'm sure that could do that, i know you can use a router to limit ACCESS to the internet, i'm not SURE about bandwidth throttles, but i would imagine they would make them.

and the kids thing doesnt need a password for a certain time really, just put a password on the computer only YOU know, and then they have to ASK to use it, you log them in when you will let them use it. When its time to quit, tell them to quit... =)

Sounds like we share that problem of keeping on-line game playing within reason. What I'd really like to see is a version of Norton Internet Security (which is the firewall I'm using) that allows me to configure internet access rules for executables that have a time window option, or (better yet) an elapsed time option (i.e. X hrs per week).

I've found you can add the time window for specific PC's through the SMC 7004 router I'm using to share the cable internet connection. It also has some other access control features that I haven't tried yet.

Lose too much of my bandwitdh while were both online. I game and they just download stuff.
And I would just password protect it, but I crash out way before the kids (teens) because I get up at 5:00 am and it wouldn't be fair for them. I will though if there's not a way to lock it down after a certain time.

You can use a managed switch to restrict bandwidth on each port connected
