Internet Connection Sharing with USB

Hi, I have two laptops that I would like to share the same connection via internet connection sharing. The problem is, I am currently at the University of Peking, and they require each computer to sign in through their website (only one session) in order to access sites outside of China, so I can't just use switch to share the connection.

I did a little bit of research and came to the conclusion that I needed to network the computers via a separate physical connection than that which is used to connect to the internet. For instance, I currently have the switch connected to the wall outlet, and my 2 laptops connected to the switch. If I am correct, I need to network the laptops with a different connection (such as USB, firewire, or a different ethernet connection). I only have 1 ethernet port on each laptop.

So, I just bought a USB to USB networking kit, and installed the software. The problem is that it doesn't show up as a connection in windows network connections. All I see is firewire, wireless, and ethernet. The USB to USB networking kit uses some proprietary software in order to transfer files (the model is genelink ( i think) Y125-D). As a result, I am still unable to use windows internet connection sharing.

Should I:
Try my luck with a firewire networking cable?
Buy a usb-ethernet device?
Listen to the collective genius of AnandTech to make this work out

If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thank you all. I could be totally misinterpreing how to use internet connection sharing.

Some of the USB to USB are problematic.

You probably would have better luck buying an USB to Ethernet and try it on ether computers while the connection is done with crossover CAT5e.
