Internet Browser Problem?

Hey guys, I'm at a loss for ideas here. On my desktop no matter which form of internet browser I attempt to use, whenever I type in www.google.com, or attempt to type in any website to visit the entire browser will freeze, and the computer will lock up. This problem came suddenly and I have no idea what would be the root of it. Oddly enough I can visit pages from my favorites menu, but like I mentioned earlier simply typing in www.google.com will result in a windows lockup under internet explorer, and a temporary freeze under firefox. I would appreciate any input or troubleshooting steps! Perhaps someone out there has even had this happen to them!

at least scan your system b4 putting out more questions
