International shipping (from US) and insurance question (last one!)

Okay, to folks that ship items to other countries...

Return receipt/recorded delivery/registered mail (whatever it's called) are not available on the USPS Airmail parcel post service, right? That's what I was told by a postal worker, that it's only available if you use the Global Priority service, or the more expensive options. Will the insurance be able to work here if the recipient claims he or she never got the item?

No, in that case insurance would only cover physical damage. Insurance doesn't work for lost items unless they have a way of tracking the entire trip.

Ahhh, interesting. Can anyone else back this up? I think the Global Priority Service has tracking available.

At the sender's option, parcel post packages mailed to many destination countries can be insured against loss, damage, or rifling. Comparable insurance coverage is not available to senders who mail letter-post items to those same countries.
