Internal Raid 5

I am considering an internal raid 5 set up, using 4 x Samsung 1GB F3 and a Highpoint RocketRAID 2310.

I am a little concerned that this might create a lot of heat.

Has anyone got any experience of this kind of set-up?

I have:
2 x 640GB WD blacks in RAID 1
2 x 640GB WD Blue(before they were called that) as standalone storage drives
1 x 128GB Crucial C300 SSD

Running off onboard ICH10 controller in a coolermaster "Wavemaster" case. Its a small midtower case with 2 x 80mm fans up front and 1 80mm fan in the back. My system runs rather cool and fairly quiet(considering 4 hard drives are spinning away). To say my case is "full" would be an understatement. The only place I have any room to expand drive-wise is one more 5.25" drive bay. All those hard drives hardly fit in with my ATI 1GB 4850 with custom "ICEQ4" cooler(HIS).

hard drives pull what...8W or so when active? I doubt you'll find many heat issues with that especially when the heat is mostly conducted to the case chassis.

You can get a hot pluggable hard drive dock from Newegg. It takes up two 5.25" slots and you can mount a cooling fan behind it.

Hey PurdueRy,

That's what I was hoping - I'm going for a mid tower too, the Lancool pc p60, Thanks!
