Internal & External SCSI will not work with Plextor in Win2k......

Ready for this.....my internal ultra scsi config is as follows:

ID4 Iomega Zip Not terminated
ID5 Plextor 121032Tsi Not terminated
ID6 Plextor Ultra40 Terminated

Everything is fine until I hook up an external ultra scsi device, such as my scanner, HP 5SE. Windows locks up solid. If I just hook up the external cable, my internal devices try to function, but I can no longer burn, copy or read from a cd, and a frozen set of windows is soon to follow. If I disconnect the internal devices, and hook up just the external scanner, which is terminated, Windows will install the appropiate drivers and all is well. If I try to hook everything up again, frozen windows......Adaptec is clueless on the subject, but they agree that it sounds like a termination issue. By SCSI standards, my last internal device is terminated as is my last external device. Above and beyond this, why would the system freak out with just the cable attached......

I know two other people that are having this problem...I can't believe Anandtech hasn't heard of this yet......

Cables might be too long. I'm not sure what the maximums are but it's something like scsi1= 6 meters scsi2=3 meters scsi3=1.5 meters. My experience with Adaptecs tech support was crap. It took 2 2 hour calls over 2 days for them to tell me that a 2930cu scsi card needed an updated aspi8dos.sys on a boot disk (I could not get a win98 boot disk to recognize this card). You would think that I was the first person to ever have this problem. You didn't say what card you have. If your bios is set to scsi2 set it to scsi1 if its set to scsi3 try scsi2.

Not sure of the devices, but you're not using all 3 connectors on the SCSI card are you??

For example, a 2940UW has a 50 pin internal, a 68 pin internal, and 68 pin external. You cannot use all three at once.
