FWIW, I made about $47k/yr as an intern. I was only there for 7 months, but it most certainly was a paid internship.

wtf pays an intern ~$20 an hour?

That's right around the median for an engineering internship here at my school. $3000 month is avg for EE; $3200 a month is average for ChemE.

Geez. Not saying most of you guys don't deserve it, but at that point why do they still call it an internship?

Aye. Average is ~40k (CAD, but still good money) for my school.

It all depends on the industry. The a lot of entertainment companies, for example, often have free interns working for them.
As does the federal government.

Not all internships are paid, that includes EE and CS/CE type internships to. It depends on the program/company. A lot of non-profit organizations do internships. I intern for a nasa based program and I dont get paid, but having nasa on my resume is always a ++

As far as OP goes... send them a resume and take an interview, then just turn it down if it doesn't pay. They might have just forgotten to list it, or maybe they didn't list it because it's higher than other positions and they don't want to pick up a loser who is good at putting on a show in an interview.

You can always go for a 10 minute interview and get the interview experience then turn it down, but you'll kick yourself if you find out it was paid.

intel, microsoft, etc

i would not assume either way

just send a simply letter of inquiry w/ your resume (or whatever they want), and ask if there is any compensation
