I am receiving intermittant bluescreens in Windows XP. This comes after the replacing
of my entire system with new parts.most prominant one while i am actually using my machine seems to be "Driver IRQL Not Less or Equal", on atapi.sys. I just replaced all the components, except for the soundcard. but there are others. This tends to happen when my system is just idling
for a long period of time, but i also have been getting random reboots from time
to time. I have turned off "automatically reboot when an error is detected", so it
isnt that. I am toying with the motherboard being cooked to some degree. This would
be the second board i have tried. I know atapi.sys driver deals with the hard drive controllers, but where would the problem lie? should i replace the driver again? Any help?

Specs:
AMD Athlon Xp 3200+
NFORCE2 A7N8X-E DELUXE ASUS
Corsair 1gb(2x512mb) DDR 400 pc3200
GeForce Fx 5700 256mb
Diamond DT-688 3D PCI 5.1 Sound Card
Maxtor 200GB 7200rpm Hard drive

The one recorded error, and most frequent when in use ( i will record more):

Driver IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP:0x000000D1
Atapi.sys
F7774C1B
base at F7772000

Download the latest A7N8X-E drivers - if that doesn't do it then a fresh install of XP probabaly will fix it.

What power supply are you using? Try running with only 1 stick of memory to see if it is a memory problem. Also get memtest86 and test the memory.

Read over my .sig's URL and then follow those steps, and let me know once you've got a new dump & the .cab file, and send it my way.

atapi.sys is an ide bus driver. Unplug your drives on the secondary ide. see if the problem persists.
If it doesn't, update the drivers for your hardware on that channel.
Another thing to check is your processor and memory settings in your bios. If they aren't jiving, the system is crashing, and just so happens that the driver is pushing it over the edge.
Another cause of the "irq not less or equal" is improper cooling. Make sure your heatsink is placed properly and in the correct direction with a good heatsink material.

I would say this is a contributing factor to your problem.

Just re-read the issue. If it does this without any third party drivers on the box, it's hardware - time to replace the hardware.
