interestingly enough: my neighbor has 3 cars

Anyone else find this weird ?

They're a young couple and the dude is obviously into cars but they use all 3 at random times. It's not like any is a weekend car or a collector's car. They've got an '02 Eclipse that looks like something out of 2Fast2Furious (no joke, carbon fiber hood and a big wing), a Miata, and a Matrix (for the wife).

I'm not ragging on them or anything - they're nice people... but it does not make any financial sense.

Some people have a hobby car, some people have enough money to have 3 cars, some people would rather have another car than a big screen TV.

Just like some people think some people on ATOT are morons for having more than one computer.

no, i have 3 cars and only my wife and i drive them

why do you think it is wierd?

the oldest car isn't worth enough to take the time to sell it and having a spare is good if either of the other cars needs to go into the shop for repairs

My father used to own 4-5 cars (and 3-4 motorcycles) at a time. Although, since he retired he has downsized the fleet somewhat. Some people just want more than 1 car. There's nothing weird about it.

annual inspection costs (this is NY) ? Maintenance costs... if it is of no use, you can donate it.

Only I drive (my wife doesn't need to) and we had 2 cars. The upkeep with the registration/inspection and maintenance wasn't worth it anymore. We couldn't sell it so we donated it... no hair off my back... it's just weird that someone would willingly keep something like that which costs its share of money every year.

Something like an extra PC can be used for other reasons... but a car is a car if you know what I mean. I can understand if he had a bike or something...

I have 4 TVs, one projector, 2 computers with HDTV tuner card and monitor. there are only 2 of us, and we only watch 1 TV at a time, is that weird?

dude i hate my neighbors because they said they thought alot of people live here because of our cars, i have 2 (one isnt even parked here evar) my brother has 2 (both are parked here) and his GF has 1. so they think like 4 or 5 people live here and complain about it, i hate them. they suck. they never leave their house so they are the ones who suck.

I don't think it's weird. At one time for about a year, my wife and I had 4 cars and I had my Harley. I had a truck, she had an SUV, I had an old VW Golf diesel that my father-in-law gave me and I had my play car, a '63 vette. We lived out in the country and I had a large garage I could store them in so they weren't all parked in the yard like some kind of trailer trash.

It was a matter of having the toys I wanted and I found them at bargain prices so WTF not?

Then kids came along....

no. but that is obviously not the same. Are all 4 of your tvs in one room ?

If they are weird because they own three vehicles then I must be an absolute freak, I own and drive nine vehicles.

I plan to own three cars for myself in the future. A commuting car, a family car for vacations and an AMERICAN MUSCLE car for summer cruises only. 😉

yes, i can understand if you're rich or can afford it because of cost-of-living... but people who choose to live around here with a $2000+ mortgage every month are not the type of people who would keep extra cars around... that's why I'm thinking it's weird. Maybe this isn't the right place to bring it up.

Dude, a lot of people will keep buying sh!t on credit just because they can. They want all this stuff and when they realize they can get it for the cost of a low monthly payment, they do it. What they fail to take into consideration is that stuff adds up and it will end up biting them in the ass. For instance, all these people buying these new $50k Cadillac Escalades while living in Govt. housing. Their kids hardly have decent shoes, but yet the parents drive expensive fashionable cars and smoke several packs of Kools a day. WTF?

all 3 are already paid for

any additional mileage i get out of them before they break/die is like free miles to me
i alternate them, the 1990 mazda has no A/C (it broke back in 2000) , so drive it more in the winter and less in the summer. its a beater car and it makes sense to me to drive it until it has a major mechanical failure (engine/transmission)

if i "dontated" the oldest car, then i would put more miles on my other 2 cars and they would break sooner

i don't see the downside to keeping them until they die

registration/inspection isn't that much annual cost compared to a new car payment (which also gets taxed more, in Missouri we have to pay personal property tax on vehicles, so people with newer cars have to pay more each year in taxes)

whatever, its a free country

he's right everyone. We should all do as rh71 says and have only one car per eligible driver and no more. Because, you know, he might think it's weird or something. And we all know we don't want to be perceived as being weird for having more than one car per driver or something...
