Interesting View on Rumsfeld . . .

This isn't a defense posture, it's a meltdown -- the latest sign that Rumsfeld and his aides have no coherent view of future military requirements.
Que? What's the threat on the horizon that's going to require twelve aircraft carriers instead of nine? I have read about scalebacks on the number of F-22s, but never about them being cut completely.

Then: Kerry is teh evil. He is cutting the military. Spitballs, I tell you! Spitballs!

Now: Rumsfeld is our hero.

This should be entertaining. Let the spin begin.

No kidding:

The scale of the proposed cuts is breathtaking. The Navy would reduce the number of aircraft carriers and air wings it maintains by a quarter (from twelve flattops to nine). The Air Force's next-generation Raptor fighter, sustained through five previous administrations, would be terminated on the eve of production (squandering $40 billion already spent). The Army would see its modernization plans reordered and delayed despite obvious signs of exhaustion for much of its arsenal in Iraq. And what of all the leap-ahead transformation projects that Rumsfeld said would replace "legacy" systems? They're disappearing too, mostly into the maw of Iraq and rising personnel costs.
It's ok as long as it's from their end. It's because we're winning the war on terror....or something.

Anyone notice that this is from deep inside the Political Machine -
and they are aluding to Rumsfeld being tossed in March ?

The end of the first paragraph - As a result, the isolated defense secretary will probably depart not long after his March budget testimony on Capitol Hill.

Interesting. Let's hope they're right.

On second thought, given Bush's track record of replacing bad people with worse people, I should probably be careful what I wish for. Any leading contenders in the worse-than-Rumsfeld race?

The Navy shipyards let go of 120 Drafters and Designers today as the Navy scales back the plans for the fleet.

1-11-2005 120 cut from shipyards in Louisiana, Mississippi

Northrop Grumman Ship Systems has laid off 120 workers at its two shipyards near New Orleans and Pascagoula, Miss., as the result of U.S. Navy budget cuts.

Seventy drafting and design workers were cut Monday from the Ingalls shipyard in Mississippi while another 50 were laid off at the Avondale shipyard near New Orleans, the company said.

Northrop's senior shipbuilding executive said last week that the company will eliminate about 2,500 jobs from its regional shipyards over the next four years.

Cullin said the option of attrition was not available with the first round of layoffs. Drafting and design jobs are generally the first to go when work at a shipyard slows.

Our company supplies some parts for F-22 Raptor, Lockheed pretty much froze all development because Congress terminated funding. Same for Crusader howitzer, completely cut.

The way Negroponte is piling up nominations I wouldn't be surprised if he was appointed Minister of Homeland defense, security, intelligence and safety.

Well, apparently americans are stupid, i mean, you have alot of hard evidence against you. Speaking of the french, i wouldn't know. Only been there once, and i don't remember. My gf is french though, and she hates the country. I'm danish, and i hate many danish people. I guess it's just easier making an impression if you're stupid.

And what's that thing you have with the french? Afraid of their < 150pound women? 😛

Sounds like you have an inferiority complex, which if i remember my psychology teaching correctly, is spot on actually. I mean, you're allways talking about them.

Ahh yes, I should have added that as well.. 'The American people are stupid'.. Everyone is stupid to the left except for them. Its too bad they are smart enough to figure out how to win an election.

Well, if winning includes lying, cheating, discriminating, distortions and fearmongering, then you can win every time.

Yes, the stupid people that have somehow stumbled and bumbled to the head of the pack. I suspect that the Euro elites have been underestimating the US for about the last 100 years.

Excellent. I'll take lying, cheating, discriminating, distorting, and fearmongering Repubs over lying, cheating, discriminating, distorting, and fearmongering dems any day.

No, they really aren't. Remember 2000? And to be serious for a moment, I'd say the stupidest of people are the ones who don't vote anyway, and so only counting the ones who would contribute to an election won't give very accurate results.
