What's the conspiracy? That the gov't wanted to keep blacks safe and away from harm? If anything, wouldn't you think blacks would be right up there getting killed with whites?

What sort of conspiracy do you have in mind?

I was thinking about this during a Core 40 test in US History the other day. The question was "Name two ways that WWII led up to the African American civil rights movement." I was thinking back to SPR, BoB and I realized there weren't any blacks. I can't remember what I wrote down though.

Many of the blacks who served in WWII were "in the rear with the gear" so to speak. They rarely served on the front lines in combat. The thing I find the most ironic is that many blacks died during WWII fighting for a Country who claimed to be fighting for freedom, yet blacks at that time were still being discriminated against as far as what they could do, where they could go, etc. Sad really.

Should've mentioned the Tuskeegee Airmen. They were probably the most successful fighter group during WWII.

I don't think there were any black fighting units storming the beaches on d-day. I'm pretty sure the military was segregated out a good deal back then. Pearl Harbor touched very lightly on the matter where you notice all the black servicemen were pretty much all cooks and the like.

The Emperor thought they were aliens and had them all killed.

Go look up the Tuskegee Airmen.

www.tuskegeeairmen.org
"...established the incredible and unprecedented record of flying all of its bomber escort missions (200 over most of central and southern Europe) without the loss of a single bomber to enemy aircraft.

Yep, Benjamin O. Davis also became a 4-star general.

They didn't call them red tailed angels for nothing.

Didn't they break off from combat while another American pilot was getting mauled by German fighters?

They had a firefighting unit that put out fires in the west coast, which were caused by Japanese balloon bombs that were floated over to the united states

There was also a black engineering group that helped build the Alcan highway.

There were black people in WW2 and they fought, on average, as bravely as the white guys.
