I know a lot of people that own guns, these would be people I'd classify as upper middle class...bringing in low 6 figures without much debt. Most own one gun, some a couple (usually a pistol and shotgun/rifle).

It seems here most not only own $900-1200 pistols and quite a few of them, but also AR15's that are nicely modified and then in other thread bring up .30-06's, mossbergs, etc.

Are you guys just pouring all your money into guns or just subscribe to alot of magazines?

I have a few pieces in my collection that would go for around $1000-1200 but those are the exceptions, my average value per gun would be lower since most of my collection is military surplus.

Then there is ammo to consider. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

ATOT is a farm of elitism. Generally whenever someone speaks up about having something, they've researched the hell out of it and determined it's the 'best'.

Therefore, his gun is bigger which makes him better than you.

Come on alkemyst, you're one of the biggest elitists on the forums, you should know this.

Same with me. I have a badass Paradigm audio setup, a great computer, dual monitors, etc. But I don't have a car (thus no insurance), I'm single, and the rest of my stuff is dated. You put more money into your hobbies. Hell, I make minimum wage working part time at a grocery store and my speakers alone cost $2000.

There are probably a number of gun owners who simply aren't posting in the gun threads.

LoKe got it right. We put tons of money in hobbies, that does not mean other stuff is on par with hobby items.

I was making min wage grocery store job but put together a $2500 computer. I ride bus, $30 road bicycle, crap Walmart bicycle (that I had to fix numerous times).
I have one pair of shoes (running ones), one pair of jeans, 5 shirts and 2 shorts. My backpack is 3 years old walmart shit that cost $15, and I live in apt with my parents.

Same with gun people, they may live in some ditch but have $1500 AR-15 and a metric ton of ammo.

All of my AR's were cheap, because I built them myself.

The only super-expensive firearms that I did not inherit were my M1a national match, my Barrett (got an awesome deal on that used though), and my HK handguns. They arent THAT expensive.

I am always looking for upgrades every single payday for my firearm collection. It is kind of like some of the computer enthusiast's here, with always upgrading their computer rigs.

I am on an AR-15 lower reciver kick right now, I am making it a rule to buy six of them this year just for holding onto.

Put it in perspective.

How many guys here have a $1000 PC rig, and upgrade once every year or two? How many have big screen TV's? How many are into cars?

Shooting is my hobby. I dont watch TV. My PC I built less then 3 months ago and even then it was at best mediocre. I dont have a car payment. I rarely go to the bar, a 12 pack in my fridge will last a month if not longer.

Shooting is where my free money goes. Some spend it on computer stuff, some on fancy electronics (My phone is 2 years old or so), some on home entertainment, so to get a new chip in their car.

I spend mine on shooting.

What you really need to ask of shooters is what hobbies they have besides shooting.... Then you can get an idea where they stand financially.

Or reload ;)

Thinkin real hard about a Dillon 550B. Prices will go up effectife Jan 1st, so if I'm gonna go for one I'll go soon.

Either that or a Giraud trimmer. I HATE trimming brass.

I can reload for around 13-15 cents per round. I can load some good "mil spec" stuff for around 20-25 cents per round. Try buying a case of mil ammo (If you can find it!) for 200 bucks.

Hell, as an example yesterday I bought 1000 Win 55gr FMJBT for 66, and another 1000 54gr tracers for 25 bucks.

I have 2k bullets for less then 100 bucks. 2k primers will set you back around 40-50. Powder is something of the kicker, you can get 8 pounds for 80 bucks but have shippin or hazmats, locally I can get some good new production (Not pulldown) for 120-150 for 8 pounds.

Well the HK compact and ACP45 you posted for daily carry are around $900 or so I think. Maybe they are cheaper used though. I still don't get the people the claim to have multiples of the same guns...maybe as a collection it makes sense.

I don't watch TV. I don't drink. I don't party so I have no need for designer threads. I ride a cheap 125cc motorcycle that has a top-speed of 60mph and gets 100+ miles per gallon.

Can you imagine how much money I'm saving for my other interests? I figure it's the same with everyone else. Maybe the guy with lots of guns doesn't have a Bimmer/60" plasma/$4000 audio setup? Everyone has different priorities.

And that is just it, I am a collector of certain firearms, especially AR's and HK handguns.

As far as AR's go, I want to have one in at least every configuration possible. :D

If I see a good firearm at a good price, I will generally pick it up even if I don't need it.

I have a Dillon XL650 for all of my re-loading, works great.

That thing cranked out about 14,000 rounds of 5.56 in one weekend earlier this year, did not even hiccup the whole time.

It sure beats the Hornady progressive that my parents have. :D

What is Dillon XL650?

Ammo press? You load empty shells in one box, lead tips, and gun powder in other and it makes bullets?

QFT. You have it right there. Hobbies are where all of our funding goes. Like you, I have a very nice audio system, but everything else is lackluster-mediocre-"OK". The amount of money I put into my audio equates to that of a car.

Many "normal" people would justify buying the car first because they would use that everyday. Living in Boston, I don't have a need for a car, so that money went into my audio, which I listen to everyday.

Likewise, someone who is interested in guns and associated equipment will put money into quality pieces because they are using them all the time. The idea of putting a lot of time and effort into a hobby is one of the reasons why it is easy to justify exponential increases of cost for incremental amounts of quality.

I have a couple of nice pieces in my collection, but none would be considered exotic or expensive. I own a total of 8 firearms, and have spent less than $1000 on four of them. The other four were given to me by my Dad.

My guns are relatively cheap:

$340 for my revolver
$280 for my semi

Its the other stuff that gets expensive, ie classes, permit fees, ammo, cleaning supplies, protection, cases, hosters, etc, etc

Heh SLI is only needed if they play on insane resolutions (read: giant monitors).
On tournament they use normal sized monitors.

However, SLI is a good way to increase EPENIS size.

Few things say "I GOT HUGE EDONG" quite like a pair of video cards that each cost more than an entry level PC.

???? What state are you guys in? I'm 17 in Illinois, can I ever get an AR in the future? I know a FOID allows me to get a 'long gun' at 18 and handguns at 21. What category do AR's fall in?

And where would you even buy an AR from?
