Interesting thing about music, religion, and atheism.

I think he's trying to appear superior to Christians by saying they're closed-minded barbarians while he's just an innocent drummer but clearly it's the opposite.

Actually, he's correct in that christians really are close-minded bigoted barbarians and he really is just an innocent drummer.

And they asked me if I would
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
She said, "Tell me are you a Christian, child?"
And I said, "Ma'am, I am tonight!"
--- Marc Cohn

Also, Jars of Clay has some great xtian songs and I'm agnostic. Good music is good music.

You have to ask yourself. Why in the world would you want to be around these kind of people, work for them or within that environment?

You trolls really need to step up your game; you guys came out swinging but here we are a page and a half later and almost nobody has even nibbled at your bait. You're really trying too hard, use some subtlety.

I didn't mean to sound superior in any way. It's just that in my experience, as soon as people find out I'm atheist, they treat me differently. Some people get angry and avoid me, and others try to convince me that their ways are the right way. However, if you're not atheist, I do not care in any way. I live in Florida, where the average age is something like 105 years old (lots of Cadillacs are driven here), so a generation gap might have something to do with it, as well.

As far as the bands, most of them are crap, but some if them are really amazing. Some churches have entire, production quality setups. A local church here has a full stage with lighting, rigs, fog machines, you name it... With an awesome band to fill it. It's like something you'd see at a theme park.

Anyway, you'll see in "looking for a drummer" postings at work, bars, Craigslist, neighborhood board, etc, requirements for the position such as "for the love of Jesus" and "devotion to God." That's all fine and dandy, but it seems hostile to a nonbeliever. I may just have a conversation one day to test the waters.

Someone asked me if I was just thinking out loud. Basically, yes. I wanted to know the view from the other side.

Do it if you want but be respectful and if they say "you're in our prayers" or talk about religion you have to deal. It's their place, their way. Can't do it? Then don't.
