Interesting Take On the Abortion Argument...

I just saw some group protesting abortion because of financial reasons.

It is interesting if you think about it and something which prolife groups rarely mention in their arguments.

They estimated that 40 million abortions have been performed since the 70's. If you look at it from a financial standpoint, that could have been 40 million additional taxpayers to lessen the load on everybody else. It could have been 40 million more people to pay into social security so it could last longer without forcing government to raise taxes or cut benefits. 40 million more people to draw a pool of leaders and labor for industry in this country.

I'd be willing to bet that 30 million of them would've gone to mothers on welfare, which means 30 million more larger welfare checks paid out, and probably at least 20 million more people who'd be on unemployment by now.

I was thinking along the lines of what pretender said.

Most of the aborted babies wouldn't have gone into successful well developed families so they could grow up, get a good education, good jobs and be productive members of society.

They'd go to mothers that are to young to properly raise a child, and who may likely be a slut or have drug problems, and will most likely grow up to reflect that.

excactly what i was going to point out. it's not 40 mil to pay taxes, it's 40 mil for the taxpayers to take care of.

That figure seems a little large. There's what, about 260 million people total in the US? If a third of those were born since the 70's that's still less than 90 million. Nearly half of all pregnancies are aborted? I doubt it. Maybe I'm wrong.

Interesting - but does the US really need 40 million more people?

I suppose this argument would only hold merit in areas that can handle population, ie. it wouldn't go against abortion in China.

lirion - It's 30 million. I stand corrected. It's every 1 in 4 pregnancies, roughly 25%.

that seems mad large of a number..
i'd think it would be more like 1 in 25 or so..

i would think so too, but have a gander:

<< 49% of pregnancies among American women are unintended; 1/2 of these are terminated by abortion. >>

that sounds like roughly 1 in 4 to me
