If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.

The rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington, D.C.

:D

Agreed!

It's a shame that our nation's capital is amongst the most dangerous places in the country.

For people who think those stats sound fishy, and who aren't subjected to the wishful thinking disease that seems to infect so many otherwise perfectly normal people, you're right. The population of DC in 2004 was about 550,000 with about 195 murders that same year. For those of you that are bad at math, that's about 35 murders per 100,000 people in one year. Now surprisingly enough, the stats for the troops in Iraq are correct in the general sense, but what's left out is that those 60 deaths per 100,000 people are per month, so that works out to be 720 deaths per 100,000 soldiers each year. In other words, being a US soldier in Iraq means you are about 20 times more likely to be murdered than if you are some random DC resident.

Damn those facts, why do they hate America?

I suggest that the OP chain mail these facts back to eveyone in the originating chain.. The original chain mail probably started from either Rive's desk or from the GOP headquarters.. doing their best to keep America brainwashed

I actually believed it at first. Seemed plausible since there are more guns in D.C. than in Iraq.

Lots of things sound plausible, or believable, or even likely. But really, the only way to be sure is to look at the actual facts. It's this crucial last step that a lot of people leave out ;)

DC being dangerous....BAH....I live just outside detroit and work at Detroit's #1 trauma hospital...I see shooting more than I'd wish to, and sadly one of our physicians was shot and killed in our ER 2 years ago...

As stated above....lets pull out of Detroit :p

EDIT: As of 2004 murder rate was 43 per 100,000

Curious, how did you figure this out exactly? Do you know the muders per year in Washington D.C off the top of your head? :D

Is this like when that Senator said Iraq was as safe as CA, he was sighting the number of violent deaths in CA per month compared to Iraq. Of course he left out that CA has like 30 million people and Iraq had like 120,000 troops. Is it me or are Republicans bad at math and highly gullible? I guess that explains why they tune into Fox to get programmed, thinking is hard work.

Shows how little of USA I know. Well, ok, how little I know period. Man, being an ambulance driver is crazy enough without worrying about being shot.

Just gotta love the neo-con reasoning...
Considering these 'statistics', I think these people should move to iraq as it's obviously safer
