Interesting site - Perverted Justice - exposes child molester wannabes

A friend referred me to this site the other day, and I find it fascinating. Basically, they have a crew of volunteers who pretend to be 13-year-old girls on chat rooms, and then enter into IM sessions with the pervs who try to pick up on them. They generally get phone numbers and/or pictures, then post the whole sessions on the Web page.

Since the website folks are not law enforcement, they can freely engage the would-be child molesters and publish their activities. It is really interesting to see how these creeps work.

I have to say something. when I was back in gr 8, and 9 there used to be people in my school who used to be in chat rooms and talk to people, and when the other person asks them to send a pic they get a picture of someone, annyone online and send it to them, it would be really bad if that happens to someone by mistake and their picture gets sent by mistake lol

But the police should get involved and track the real pervs down with their info, pedophiles should not be allowed in public, SEND THEM TO JAIL!

I suspect the site in question is going to be subjected to a civil lawsuit soon for defamation. It looks tacky to begin with (i.e., such a messy site). Additionally, a genuine site interested in the welfare of the true victims would make effort to stay in contact with law enforcement and a network of organisations, it seems to me. It seems like this is a profit intended business that forgot to consult for legal advice before starting the business. It's still fresh and hasn't yet circulated well enough. Once it has circulated, the suit will take effect. I just noted: Not even copyright information or year the site began.

Also, I imagine people, as it gets more popular, playing pranks on other people in real life by giving someone else's phone number or address. Anything goes on the 'net. Until someone actually endeavours to meet another party in real life or actually gives the other party a phone call, I refuse to accuse someone of an action, as a wannabe, or having intent. I would have no problem if they published the chats and e-mail addresses but not the phone numbers or addresses given.

This is my opinion, again, so don't get personal with me. Stay in topic, as I haven't gotten personal with anyone.

Sorry, but I find the facination that these do-gooders have with "catching" all these pervs is a bit disturbing in itself. I know that sounds like a weird thing to say, but look at some of our more popular members here. Taking the time to call these guys' up, reporting them here and there. You would think a site that really cares about the welfare of children would already have taken care of it. What are you guys? Nerds by day and vigilantes by night? If you are serious about helping: a) start your own site b) join the site and actually have them report stuff c) leave it to the cops and stop posting every single one of your "i just reported another perv!" explots here

BTW, do you think embarassing or calling up these "socialites" will prevent them from hurting a child? Colorado shootings anyone?
