They purchase items on line with stolen credit cards, and have it shipped to you.
You are supposed to repackage and send it overseas to the scammer. That way if someone comes to investigate where the goods are, they grab you instead of the scammer.

Could easily be a multi-level marketing scheme. They probably need you to buy some POS startup kit and hock their crap to your friends... you never make your money back because their stuff is junk.

That I did not catch.

I wonder how it could be turned against them.
Force them to cover shipping costs?

OK OT - how to impact the scammer without exposing myself.

My favorite scam was from my old boss. He was always talking about making money, 'on the side'. He walked up to a whiteboard and said, "a lot of people think this is a pyramid scheme....but it's not."

He proceded to draw figures on the whiteboard:
"Here's Me" X
"Here's You and everyone else that are close friends of mine" X X X X
Now all you have to do is recruit people below you to sell the products, etc, etc....it looked a heck of a lot like a pyramid to me. :p

This sounds awfully alot like an investigation that Chris Hanson did. The sucker receives the boxes then ships them. The person uses his money to reship the items in hopes that he gets a bigger cut of the profit once the item sells. Of course, the item is stolen and he never receives any of his money.

On Chris' investigation, the idiot who got involved believed he was being made a partner in the business and thought he was becoming romantically involved with his partner, who he had only met through the internet. The man was married. The guy had spent $40K of his own money before he finally realized and admitted he had been scammed. His wife knew nothing of what was going on other than he was receiving the packages and resending them out.

Hanson had gone as far as to lining up a meeting with the female "partner". Of course, he only met a gentleman from Nigeria and a female who tried to sell him on another "business opportunity".
