Interesting Question my roommate asked me while we played GTA last night

Almost everyone will say that Murder is the worst thing you can do.

As I was playing GTA he was sitting there while I elbowed a woman off her bike and then proceeded to hit her and shoot her in the head killing her to steal her bike.

Now why is this acceptable, but if I raped her people would be up in arms about it?

*neither of us wanted to see that, but just asking why its acceptable to murder in games but not rape
 
Murder is worse. With rape, at least you get to see the bastard get sent to pound-him-in-the-ass prison.

I think they are equally bad. But I agree, at least you keep your life with rape (not always, but then it becomes murder).
But when you are dead, you don't have to live with the memory or the fear of being murdered again.
 
hmm surprised some people said rape...

im sure if you could ask the people who have been murdered, they would say they wish they had just been raped

early games started killing from the late 70s

"lets kill the pixel", then "lets kill the monster", then "lets kill the axes", then "lets kill the civilians".
all small transitions, society adjusted each time.


no game started out: "lets rape the pixel"

He turned violent because of video games.
He became a serial rapist because of video games.

I guess that depends on your point of view. Maybe it's not the murder of one's soul, but it's at the least an extreme violation of it that forever scars the victim.
My viewpoint may be skewed since three women close to me have been raped.

Brutal, rofl. I usually just knock 'em off, get on the bike and run. Sometimes I'll turn back around and run them over though. BTW, which GTA is this? I haven't played SA yet (PS2 isn't fixed yet, and I'm thinking of just buying a new one for my bro as an xmas gift).

Sure they do. You take your average car thief, who's never done anything wrong sexually in his life, put him in jail, and he turns into an ass rapist. Then you take your average ass rapists, throw him in jail, and he stops.

I think the reason that all the killing is acceptable in games is because everyone feels the desire (at least figuratively) to kill someone at some time in their life. Rage ain't no stranger to most.
Rape, on the other hand is taboo. Not the "I'll corner her and give her a stab when she ain't lookin" thing that men think of when they think of as rape, but the brutal psychotic shite that happens in the real world.
I, for one, don't think anyone wants to see it, much less turn it into a game.
Which is worse? You can't compare apples to oranges.
 
I would have to say rape is worse. I am married to someone who's been through that situation and let me tell you, it isn't easy living through it. Most women who are raped never report it so, no, not all rapists go to prison to get what they deserve. Women find it embarassing and are afraid with their lives if they do report it. And it's not just women. There are many men who are raped, you just don't hear about it as often. Rape mostly is not about sex, it's about power. At least with murder, you don't have to live through the memory of that. With rape, not only does the victim live through it, but so does everyone around him or her. The person who was raped has flashbacks, fears things that didn't affect him/her before, sometimes he/she freaks out for no reason, among other things. The effects of rape last for the rest of the person's life. I agree murder is a pretty horrendous crime, but the victim doesn't have to go through all the pain in the future because the person is, well, dead.

Or maybe that's just how I feel since I don't know anybody who has been murdered.

Ask people who work in prisons. People who beat the wives, molest children and women, and rapists are especially frowned upon in prision.
