Interesting Problem: Gainward GeForce2 Pro/450 GS visual anomalies

Just bought this one used for my bro's system. Had trouble getting the card recognized correctly under win98, which we assumed to be a driver issue due to the old Jaton tnt2 m64. Upgraded OS to winXP. Unfortunately, the default drivers that XP used leave me with odd visual abnormalities. There are verticle lines that are flickery every 1.5 cm or so. It is impossible to use...No problem, I installed the latest detonators. No luck. On reboot, the PC goes blue screen on me and resets, disabling the drivers I just installed. I have several times gotten the reference drivers to funciton briefly, but they almost instantly crash. The verticle lines disappear during this brief time (~30 seconds), but there is still a bit of visual weirdness (ghosting?) I checked, and the card is running at 200/400 (factory default). What is the deal? Can anyone help me?

Celeron 400 (usually at 500, but at 400 now and for the XP install.)
128 Mb RAM

Thanks Atechers,

Sounds like it could be several different things.

*Bad Video Card: Try moving this card to another computer running XP or W2K.

*Drivers: I hear alot about remove the old drivers from the system and registry. Go to Nvidia's site to find out how to remove the drivers from the PC and then reinstall.

*Monitor: Change the resolution to 800x600x26 @60hz. Up the hertz until you reach the max. Do this for each resolution to see if it's caused by these settings. Or try another monitor.

Good luck!
