I was reading in other forums on how to use coupons properly and PM with AMEX.
Here's an example:

Buy something Y at staples for 200.
Add another item X for 40 dollars.
Total 240 - 40 off coupon = 200.

Say you found item Y somewhere else for 150.
Return item X and ask for store credit instead of CC refund (so AMEX won't know).
Total cost for Y: 200 - 40- 50 = 110!! :)

---

That's pretty slick. It is also fraud. You now have two weeks away from our forums. You can use it either to practice being a thief or to consider how wrong your idea is.

Use the system to within an inch of its life. The other whiners are the same ones that complain that buy.com won't honor the 99 cent 18" LCD.

This doesn't make sense. It's item Y you are price matching, and you are keeping item Y, so you don't have anything to hide from AmEx. Also, if you are talking about a $40 off $200 coupon available for certain stores, why did you need to buy item X and then return it? You were already at $200 with item Y. And, if item X got you over the limit to use the coupon, and then you return item X, the stores usually take off the coupon as well.

If you meant to be returning the same item that you are price matching, but hiding the return from AmEx (which is not what you have described above), I agree that is fraudulent and if you ever get caught the consequences will be far more severe than any money you saved through all that effort.
