Im doing some contract work for a company that sells mobile computers to beverage distributors. They are a small pentablet computer that runs XP, has a 1.3Ghz CPU, ect.

Anyway, they come from manufacturer with 256MB PC133 SO-Dimms. Our company pulls these modules and replaces them with 512MB modules. I can't remember the brand, but they are primo quality because they are spec'd to run and survive in a year round in a vehicle environment.

IIRC, they're are boxes and boxes of modules in storage, going to waste. The boss asked me today if I knew of a venue (like ebay or wherever) that we could cut our losses and sell these modules. He told me to figure it out, and pay myself with a commission on the sales.

Anyone know of a place that I could offload these in one batch?
or would it be better to sell them in small quantities?
any ideas??

Lucky bastard.

I'm sure you could offload them on eBay.

Pricewatch lists them for $21 each... so SOMEONE must be buying them... but with the quantity you're talking about, you'll probably flood the market and cut the price in half ;)

Google search computer recyclers/refurbishers in your area. They would gladly take them. The company probably wouldn't get a tax deduction though. Oh and shameless PM headed your way. :D

If you're in the business of charity, you can send them to me here and I'll make sure they end up in non-profit organization's PCs. We have a stack of laptops that we can't do anything with because the previous owners cannibalized them for RAM - and we don't exactly run into many SODIMMs in the scrap pile.

Can't offer you a tax deduction though.

are they 4-chip or 8-chip per side? Old Latitude C-Series owners would eat up the 8-chippers.

I will hopefully get a part number from him tomorrow. Then I will be able to give you more technical answers. I've only seen the boxes, not the actual modules.
If not, I work again on Friday, and will know much more about what his plans are.

Send me a link when you get them posted. I could use a couple for my grandparent's & pastor's machine.

We have sort of the same issue at work. We get in Compaq servers with 128mb Dimms and pull them out and populate them with larger memory sizes. Last time I looked our install department was using them as box openers. :p
