interesting observation between the Altima and the Maxima (3.5SE)

altima vs maxima

both cars were dynoed. the maxima dynoed +18hp and +19lb-ft higher than the altima. it appears that nissan is holding back on the maxima's actual numbers. yet the maxima is slightly slower than the altima. any thoughts? would it benefit from stickier tires?

Some cars have higher horsepower than others, simply as a factor of the manufacturing process. Usually, it won't come out to be that much of a difference. So variances among individual cars in some cases will fall at some level greater than the published spec.

There could be a number of factors. Different transmissions, gear ratios, etc.

yeah, the maxima is one pound lighter than the altima. both cars were dynoed on the same machine at the same time.

from what i've been hearing, it does sound like the maxima puts down more power than advertised.

Thats nothing new, GM still advertises the 2002 Sierra/Silverado 5.3 as having 285HP that started in 2000, in 2001 that number went up and it also went up in 2002 with the removal of the EGR and a bigger MAF, the dyno said about 10HP and 12TQ @ the Wheels, so those trucks are easily above 300HP, being just an Iron block version of the LS1 it's no wonder those are also underrated.
