In the West, 6 of the 7 teams from the midwest division would be in the playoffs and only 2 of the 7 teams from the Pacific division would be in.....Pacific stinks this year. The east is a little more balanced as far as playoff teams go (3 from Atlantic and 5 from Central), but the Central has 4 of the top 5 teams in the East. Big ups for the middle of the United States showing up the coasts. Thought you guys might like to know

sacramento has the best record playing without their best player the entire season. you also neglected to mention that the eastern teams stink so much that a few of their playoff teams would not be in the playoffs if they were in the west.

Good point Zaku.....if you took the best 16 teams for the playoffs regardless of Conference you'd have 11 teams from the Western Conference and only 5 from the Eastern (with the entire Midwest division making it in).

Sac #1 - W
Ind #2 - E
Min #3 - W
SA #4 - W
LAL #5 - W
Dal #6 - W
NJ #7 - E
Mem #8 - W
Det #9 - E
Hou #10 - W
Den #11 - W
NO #12 - E
Mil #13 - E
Por #14 - W
Uta #15 - W
Sea #16 - W

How is webber their best player? Sacramento has a lot of good players (I'm a laker fan) but Webber is nothing but a choking b@stard. The way you talk, its like the other teams all had their best players too. The Lakers had the best records and were playing without Fox the whole season, then malone, kobe, and shaq left and then sac took the lead. San Antonio played without Duncan and Parker for a lot of the season.

i agree the midwest is more talented than the pacific, mostly because all 3 texas teams are good/great this year.

look here at the 02-03 season. webber has the most points per game, most rebounds per game, and most assists per game. i don't know your definition of 'best' players. in my book, the leading scorer, rebounder and assist man is logically the best player.

You make some decent points but that line just made me laugh my ass off. Oh no, Rick Fox is out, how will we survive without our leading......ummm.....tough guy/actor/model guy.....;)

to top it off, all the midwest might be in the playoffs if LA hadn't stolen their best player and then nancy kerrigann'ed his knee. never missed a single game until this season. must be a clippers proximity rub-off curse

AND Olowakandi. Kandiman makes them competitive with anyone in the west including the lakers.

I'll take back what I said about him being the best player. I just don't like him that much. I just had to throw that in because I dispise him. We'll see how he performs this year when he comes back, and most importantly in the playoffs. Can't expect him to come back in form after being out so long. The rest of the regular season should give him enough time to get back into it.

I shouldn't have said anything about him but I just wanted to point out that its not like the Kings are so special for playing through injuries.

EDIT: And about Fox. True, he isn't that good of a player but look who has to play when he is injured. He is a defensive presance and can hit outside shots, which is what the Lakers always had trouble with anyway. Without both him and Malone, all we have are George and Medvedenko.

if kobe or shaq was out the entire season, then we have a balanced comparison...

The kings had the entire off-season and pre-season to adapt to Webber being out and just planning their plays around that fact. Its different when you expect a player to be out and compensate for it when suddenly they're injured and you have to just play past it.

i think its impressive for a team to have the league-leading record playing without their best player.

Yes, but that's apples and oranges. Imagine if the Wolves had had Troy and Wally all season but no KG yet.

To go back to the original post, who would've thought that teams like Memphis and Denver would be looking so strong?
It'll be nice to see some fresh faces in the playoffs assuming the current standings hold.

what ever happened to that proposal that the nba finals/semi will be slotted base on the entire league so that
the finals can be possible w/ 2 western conference teams, david stern shot it down?
