My Opty should be able to power the 8800GTX just fine.

It should. My overclocked X2 4800+ feeds my 8800GTX just fine.

I dont get the point of this thread....it proves something that we already knew....fear is gpu limited. And who the heck would play fear at 1024x768 when they have an 8800gtx?

BRILLIANT deduction sherlock!! Just BRILLIANT!! What should we call this??? Hmmm.....

I've got it!!! I will call it, "GPU Limited"!! I must spread this amazing information to the world!

What a horrible thing for NVDA to do!!! Their minimum framerate on these tests was above 95% of the refresh rates of monitors on the market. How dare they mislead us customers like that??!? We made you what you are NVDA!!! WHY ????? WHHYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!one?!1/1/omg1?!eleven!!

Ya I don't see what the big deal is? Perhaps the op will come in and actually discuss in the thread they started? That would be helpfull.

On a side note I have been playing fear here lately and that performance looks really juicy to me. Can't wait for drivers to mature and price to come down a bit.

I keep reading this, but shouldn't the fps' increased when the card was overclocked then?

Is this an attempt to counter the Tom's Fudware article from a week ago touting the superiority of Quad Core for the 8800's perhaps?

lawlz... Yeah right... This is a flat out FUD/troll thread, and the basic premise is "stop, drop, and troll", not "post and discuss"...

The OP stops and drops some garbage info, which he labels as "interesting", but without actually providing any background or basis for this opinion. The reason for this is because the OP wants to give the impression that it should clearly be OBVIOUS to anyone with any sense at all that they are correct and you should be concerned or afraid. All he has to do is plant the seed of Fear Uncertainly and Doubt in the mind of the reader... Then, the OP just sits back as we fight amongst ourselves. It's gotten his thread to 2 pages already, too bad for him that it's 2 pages about what an idiot he is and how not interesting or insightful his "data" is.

Quote from the article:
However, under high resolution gaming (for example: max/ultra quality and 1280 x 960), the 8800 GPU absolutely does not scale with CPU power AT ALL. I'm talking zilch, nada, nothing.

In his read 1280x960 is high resolution gaming. Get out of here!

It depends on the game though doesn't it?? I'm pretty sure PONG wouldn't be GPU limited even at 2560x1600.

Yeah, unless someone made the most shader-intensive pong game ever with tons of special effects. I saw somewhere a pong game using fluid dynamics simulation to move the ball, and lemme tell ya - with all the details maxed out a x1900xt couldn't get smooth gameplay at 1280x960.

All I know is, "100% above 40 FPS" on every single test... buyer beware? I'd be happy to hit that with my 7900gto sli setup :p

Yeah, in my eyes, cost is the only buyer beware here. Maybe buyer beware if you are only interested in OC results. If that is your ONLY concern (and not dx10 ultra high res gaming), save the wallet and get a 7900gt :p
