yeah, back from the pinnacle tv tuner deal, you got that free remote and you can mess with it to control your computer. fun stuff 🙂

I'm gonna try ordering a rf remote from ATI, the kind they ship with the AIW cards. A guy over at the rage3d forums ordered one for about $30. You need to order through tech support as a replacement. I'm waiting for my 8500 to arrive, and I've got a TV Wonder, so it'll be perfect for me 😀

<< Yea. sun818 is selling these remotes for $10 each. I'd help out a fellow AT'er because, well.. Because. Now go buy from him!

Very nice seller also.

I had an issue with my remote and he sent me an additional one (no charge0 (priority shipping)

WITH FREE BATTERIES!!!!

Great deal for someone that doesnt have a ton of cash to do the options that this remote can do for you.

<< could you use this with anything? >>

i suspect that you could use that remote w/your home stereo components 😉

unsure if it will work with these computer RF etc receivers...

Check out this thread for info about the Take Control remote. If you have an IR setup with your PC then you can use this remote. It seems to be like a poor mans Pronto, but some people have had issues with it.

You can also use a Dish network Dishplayer IR keyboard with the Packard Bell receiver. Also those little Motorola web keyboards on Ebay for 10.00 or so work fine. Girder is free and allows you to use just about any universal remote to control your pc with the Packard Bell receiver. I've used a Pronto, Radio Shack 1994 I think, and X10 remotes - no problem.

No need to spend big bucks for an IR setup. All you really need is a decent receiver and Girder to use your existing remotes.

Get an X10 Firecracker, and you can control stuff all over the house too.

Ok, all this sounds cool, but I'm wondering if all of these remote control units are based infrared or radio waves? The reason for my concern is that my conputer is in the basement while my home stereo system is in my living room, one floor up. Can any of the devices listed in this thread be used with a computer that in on another floor or in another room? Maybe there are some supplemental wireless devices that can be used in conjunction with these remotes?

Thanks,
Mo
